The Finnish Standards Association (SFS) is an independent, non-profit organization co-operating with trade federations and industry, research institutes, labor market organizations, consumer organizations, and governmental and local authorities. Members of SFS include professional, commercial and industrial organizations, and the state of Finland represented by the ministries. SFS Standards are voluntary documents drawn by technical committees of SFS. There are over 10,000 SFS Standards. SFS and its standards-writing bodies are members of the European standards organizations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI. The membership implies obligation to implement all European standards as SFS standards within six months of approval. Finnish standards and designations were preceded by the letters SFS or SFSEN if European standard has been adopted. Example: SFS 1205; SFS 200-E; SFS M56
