In 1924 the Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN) was established with the task to standardize industrial products and their delivery requirements. After WWII PKN was reinstated and since that time has been reorganized several times. The most recent reorganization by the Polish Parliament in 1993 included the Standardization Law which set up the new voluntary standardization system. The Polish Committee for Standardization, Measures and Quality Control has been dissolved and divided into three independent bodies: Central Office of Measures, Polish Centre for Testing and Certification and Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN). The latter took over all obligations and duties relating to standardization. The Committee represents Poland in international (ISO and IEC) and regional (CEN) standards organizations, participates in their works and acts abroad in questions connected with standardization. The Committee is responsible for harmonizing Polish standards with the European standards. The Polish standards are prefixed with the upper case letters PN or PNH. The designations or standards may appear in a number of ways. Example: PN-84024; PHN 84023/07; PN 83158
