The European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization (ECISS) issues standards for European steel. This effort is carried out in close cooperation with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) which produces European Standards (EN). CEN is an association of the national standards organizations of countries of the European Union and of the European Free Trade Association. CEN's principal responsibility is to prepare and issue European Standards (EN) established on the principle of consensus and adopted by the votes of weighted majority. Adopted standards must be implemented in their entirety as national standards by each member country, regardless of the way in which the national member voted, and any conflicting national standards must be withdrawn. The identification of European Standards in each member country begin with the reference letters of the country's national standards body, i.e. BS for BSI in the United Kingdom, DIN for DIN in Germany, NF for AFNOR in France, etc. and then is followed by the initials EN and a number of up to five digits, i.e.. BS EN 10025, DIN EN 10025, or NF EN 10025. An EN Standard may contain more than one document or parts due to a particular characteristic of the steel product so the numbering may also contain a suffix that further identifies the material, i.e.. EN 10028-1.The Standards are prepared in 3 languages: English, French, and German and may be translated by each country after adoption. The CEN Central Secretariat in Brussels provides the focal point for the coordination and management of the organization and its processes shared between the National Members and the Associates which are industrial trade organizations. The countries that are National Members are: Austria (ON), Belgium (IBN/BIN), Czech Republic (CSNI), Denmark (DS), Finland (SFS), France (AFNOR), Germany (DIN), Greece (ELOT), Iceland (IST), Ireland (NSAI), Italy (UNI), Luxembourg (SEE), Netherlands (NEN), Norway (NSF), Portugal (IPQ), Spain (AENOR), Sweden (SIS), Switzerland (SNV), United Kingdom (BSI). Affiliates are the countries from Central and Eastern Europe that can join CEN as full members in the future: Albania (DPS), Bulgaria (SASM), Croatia (DZNM), Cyprus (CYS), Estonia (EVS), Hungary (MSZT), Latvia (LVS), Lithuania (LST), Malta (MSA), Poland (PKN), Romania (ASRO), Slovakia (SUTN), Slovenia (SMIS), Turkey (TSE). Corresponding Organizations include: Egypt, Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (EOS); South Africa, South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS); Ukraine, State Committee of Ukraine for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (DSTU); Yugoslavia, Federal Institution for Standardization (SZS). Example: EN 10095; BS EN 10088-1:1995; DIN EN 10028-1
