The standardization works in Russia are based on the Law "On Standardization" of the Russian Federation promulgated in 1993 and the set of standards of the State Standardization System. These standards cover most areas of commerce, industry, agriculture and public health. The State standards and All-Russian Classifiers of Technical and Economic Information are adopted by Gosstandart of Russia; for the construction and construction materials manufacturing they are adopted by State Committee for Construction of Russia. Gosstandart of Russia is the national certification body of the Russian Federation. The standards are prefaced with the upper case letters GOST and are followed by a numerical code.
