Standards Australia (SAA) was founded in 1922 and changed to its current name in 1988. It issues standards used primarily by firms doing business in Australia and the southwest Pacific area. There are currently around 6000 Australian standards, maintained by voluntary experts serving on a total of 1600 technical committees, and backed up by a full-time staff of 310. Standards Australia represents Australia on two international standardizing bodies, International Standards Organization (IS0) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Standards Australia maintains a strong relationship with Standards New Zealand and the two organizations have a formal agreement on preparing and publishing joint Standards (AS/NZS). Example: AS 1446 X1320H; AS 1442 12L14; AS 2074 302; AS/NZS 1594 HK10B55* *AS/NZS 1594 HK10B55 is a joint Australian/New Zealand Standard.
