Founded in 1902 the Steel Founders' Society of America is a trade association representing steel foundries. SFSA members are all steel casting producers from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. International companies may be associate members. There are four ongoing committees in the areas of Technical & Operating, Research, Marketing, and Specifications. The Alloy Casting Institute (ACI) established a standards-designating system for cast high-alloy stainless steels. Originally a separate organization, it was absorbed by the Steel Founders' Society of America in 1970. Designations consist of an alphanumeric code. Example: CF-8M; CF-3MA; CB-7Cu-1; CA-6NM-B
